An evening of psychotropic maximalist minimalism with The Faraway Places, a 12-person California spacerock arkestra.
2 drummers, 5 singers, 3 guitars, 2 synths, clarinet, bass & electric 12-string. projection material: Ian Marshall
lighting installation: John Fishback
DJ: Ian Marshall
The rock and roll textbook says this:
Mostly instrumental, the signature sound of spacerock and krautrock mixed rock music and "rock band" instrumentation (guitar, bass, drums) with electronic instrumentation and textures, often with an ambient music sensibility. Many albums featured a pulsing rhythm section so steady that its practitioners dubbed it "motorik" -- a mongrel word meaning, roughly, "mechanical music."
